Precession of the Equinoxes Explained

Computer graphic imagery shows how the precession of the equinoxes works.

“The stars seem to revolve around the north pole of the sky. This is because the earth revolves every 24 hours. But the position of the north pole isn’t fixed. Because of a slow wobble in the earth’s rotation, like a spinning top, the pole moves. It travels in a slow circle around a still point over 26,000 years (or 1 degree every 72 years). This cycle is known as precession.”
